Curated by Sabina Klemm and Sanja Kojić Mladenov, the travelling exhibition, developed through a process of co-creation, explores contemporary artistic practices and the idea of European identity from multiple perspectives, rooted in local contexts. The title EVROVIZION derives from similar yet distinct linguistic forms (Eurovisione / Evrovizija / Евровизия), representing an intersection of possible common points, a free interpretation of the idea of coexistence.
Following editions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Greece, Cyprus, Georgia and Bulgaria, EVROVIZION arrives in Chișinău, the seventh stop on this international journey, followed by stops in five other European cities. The project aims to offer a collective reflection on Europe’s current sociopolitical context, bringing to the forefront less visible geopolitical and cultural spaces. Particular emphasis is placed on Eastern and South-Eastern Europe and the diversity specific to these regions.
The Chișinău edition of the exhibition will include works by Maria Guțu, a photographer from the Republic of Moldova. In addition, the exhibition will be brought into dialogue with new works created by Johanna Diehl and Adnan Softić, in close collaboration with local partners. The exhibition will be complemented by a varied public programme.
The artists Gery Georgieva, Maria Guțu, Ivana Ivković and Adnan Softić will be present at the opening of the exhibition and available for discussions with the public, alongside curators Sabina Klemm and Sanja Kojić Mladenov.
Wednesday, 9 September, starting at 14:00, a guided tour of the exhibition will take place with the artists and curators.
As part of the EVROVIZION project, Maxim Poleacov, editor and cultural worker from Chișinău, participated in the international Pickle Bar Residency Mentorship Programme, organised in Berlin by the artistic collective Slavs and Tatars. During the two-month residency, Maxim organised the event Kholodets Publishing House, consisting of an artist talk and a workshop. The mentorship programme is part of the EVROVIZION project and provides support to early-career cultural workers from each host city in developing their own projects. Maxim Poleacov was selected by Slavs and Tatars and ifa as a fellow of the Pickle Bar Residency Mentorship Programme 2026.
Following the conclusion of the exhibition in Chișinău, a new edition of the EVROVIZION Magazine will be published, enriching the existing archive of this travelling project. Produced in collaboration with a local editor, the publication will document the artistic and social dynamics generated by the exhibition in the Republic of Moldova.
