Our everyday lives unfold against a backdrop broader than ever before, often dependent on transnational networks and journeys through a dense and chaotic universe.

Nicolas Bourriaud

In a world where our existence takes shape within physical spaces—homes, neighborhoods, cities—local identity inevitably intertwines with the social and the personal. Sharing these spaces with friends, neighbors, or strangers makes it essential to understand how our sense of belonging helps us maintain balance and identity amid ever-shifting boundaries.

This exhibition brings together six artists—two from the Republic of Moldova and four from Germany—who explore what it means to remain connected to a place and to one another at a time when safety and belonging are increasingly challenged.

The exhibition’s title, “Scandal in an Apartment Block,” borrowed from a work by participating artist Tatiana Cojocaru, evokes the tensions and overlapping layers of communal life. It functions both as a metaphor and as a starting point for a broader reflection on shared space and belonging.

The exhibition design follows the idea of a journey: the works are arranged in a fragmented, archipelago-like structure that invites visitors to discover, step by step, the subtle relationships between objects, spaces, and ideas.

Without offering theoretical conclusions, the exhibition allows meaning to emerge gradually—much like identity itself, always fluid and incomplete. Through their diverse approaches, the artists reflect on the concept of “home” and bring into focus themes such as local identity, belonging, and community.

Ultimately, the exhibition invites visitors to explore not only a neighborhood or a city, but also their own place in the world—an exercise in reflecting on how we define identity amid constant change.
