Temporary Exhibitions
The exhibition complements the presentation of the project What Work Is, which represented Romania at the 2024 Venice Art Biennale.
Șerban Savu’s artistic approach investigates the relationship between work and leisure, within a context marked by the visual and ideological legacy of Socialist Realism. Rather than directly rejecting these images and discourses, the artist subtly reinterprets them, placing them in an ambiguous space where the boundaries between activity and rest, between productivity and contemplation, become fluid. His characters seem suspended in moments of pause, in an expanded temporality in which the meaning of work is called into question.
The preferred artistic medium in which Șerban Savu works is painting, but both in the exhibition in Venice and in the present one, the visual discourse extends towards two other media — the maquette and the mosaic — in a proposal for the miniaturization or, conversely, the monumentalization of the painted scenes.
At the heart of this exhibition is the True Nature mosaic, created in Venice throughout the entire duration of the biennale in collaboration with students and professors from the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chișinău and the George Enescu National University of Arts in Iași. The mosaic was constructed over a period of eight months in front of the biennale audience, thus transforming the exhibition space into a workshop where artistic work became visible, collective and continuous.
Conceived to be installed in public space, the True Nature work raises questions about the role of art in the city and about collective visual memory. The exhibition thus aims to initiate a dialogue about the possibility of permanently installing the mosaic in Chișinău’s urban landscape.

The exhibition will be open to the public until 23 July 2026 and is organized in partnership with Plan B Foundation, with the support of IDEA Foundation and Lutnița Gallery.
